MUSIC VIDEO RFP

This opportunity is made possible through a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board.  The overall intention is for me to produce new work as a Director while connecting with Minnesotans.  I am narrowing that field to musicians, and am going to produce three music videos for artists in the area.  There is no cost to the musician for participating in this opportunity.

ELIGIBLITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must reside in Minnesota. (If not in the Twin Cities, must be willing to travel to the Metro)

  • All members must be over 18.

  • Must be an unsigned or independent musician/group.

  • Preference is given to those who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and/or disabled. Disability is defined for this application to include social and economic disabilities as it relates to gender and racial bias in the music industry.

  • Must have a finished, unreleased song in a shareable format.

  • Must be able to perform selected song live during final screening event.

  • All groups must be willing to sign an artist contract and commit to participating fully in this opportunity.

OVERVIEW

This grant is intended to provide an opportunity for me as a filmmaker to produce new work, so artists must be comfortable taking a secondary collaborative approach creating visuals for the video. The final screening is meant to bring different audiences together from different genres, so any and all kind of bands, duos, trios, groups, and soloists are encouraged to apply.  If your genre is underrepresented in music videos, you're in the right place.

TIMELINE

  • June 14, 2024: Application deadline

  • June17, 2024: Depending on number of applicants, finalists notified

  • June 21, 2024: All groups notified of status of application

  • July-September: Productio

  • Between first and second shoot: Cohort meeting 1

  • After all shoots, before event: Cohort meeting 2

  • Fall 2024 (October or November): Final screening event

THE SHOOT

  • Each group selected will shoot a music video directed and produced by yours truly!

  • $200 location stipend (if needed), location must be in the Twin Cities metro (outdoors preferred)

  • 6 hour shoot, can be split into multiple days, but weekdays preferred

  • Ideally your group would be the subjects in the video, but I am potentially looking for one to be more experimental or even animated!

THE IN BETWEEN

  • Must be willing to commit to two, one hour meetings with the other groups to check in, offer support, and share their experience in the Twin Cities music scene.  Ideally these conversations would be filmed and shared as a short video series to promote the event (and get to know each other!)

  • Willingness to promote and share behind the scenes footage to promote event and encourage cross-audience participation

THE SCREENING

  • All groups will perform their song live while their music video is screened.

  • Groups are encouraged to sell merch, CDs, whatever, and keep diligent record keeping of items sold (for reporting).

  • This will be a ticketed, fully accessible event for those 18 and over. Location (tentatively) is the Hook and Ladder Theater in Minneapolis.
